The Super Eagles had a game to remember in Agadir as they destroyed a very weak Sao Tome and Principe side

Victor Osimhen bagged a haul, while Terem Moffi scored a brace to lead the Super Eagles of Nigeria to a 10-0 destruction of Sao Tome and Principe at the Stade Adrar in Agadir.

Sao Tome entertained the Super Eagles albeit in Morocco, in their second fixture of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers. Sao Tome and Principe were still hurting from a 5-1 dismantling in the hands of Guinea Bissau, while Nigeria looked to make it two in two after beating Sierra Leone 2-1 in Abuja.

Nigeria were more threatening from the start, and it took them just nine minutes to take the initiative. Moses Simon swung in a brilliant cross from the left, and Osimhen was on hand to head in the opener behind a hapless Anastacio Braganca.

The Super Eagles could have scored more goals, but Osimhen was caught offside on different occasions. However, the quality showed once more in the 28th minute, as Simon made a brilliant run and promptly tucked Osimhen’s pass into an empty net to make it 2-0.

Then, two minutes before the break, Terem Moffi showed class, as he received a brilliant through ball from Osimhen and sent two Sao Tome defenders packing with a great dribble and whipped in a well-placed shot to put the three-time African champions three goals ahead.

Nigeria entered the second half with great urgency, and within three minutes, Osimhen struck his second of the game to make it 4-0. Etebo then added to the rout in the 55th minute with a beautiful finish.

Nigeria were head and shoulders above their Sao Tome counterparts, and the quality continued to show, Moffi struck his second in the 60th minute to give the Super Eagles a six-goal lead.

Osimhen scored two more goals, while Ademola Lookman added one more to make it 9-0 before stoppage time.

Emmanuel Dennis wrapped up the scoring with a well-placed penalty, sending Braganca the wrong way to ensure it ended 10-0 in Agadir.

The victory is Nigeria’s biggest win in the Nations Cup qualifiers, and Sao Tome and Principe’s second-highest defeat.
