Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has called for the suspension of the impeachments and suspension of three local government chairmen embarked upon by their legislative arms, and to maintain the previous status quo.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Sylvanus Namang and made available to newsmen in Jos on Saturday

Namang said the party received with concern the impeachments, suspension and impeachment threat saga of the Chief Executives in Mangu, Jos North and Langtang North Local Governments in the past two days by the legislative arms of the councils which bordered on the misunderstanding between the two arms of government; the Legislative and the Executive Arms.

He lamented as sad the development at the third tier of government where the Legislative arms have impeached, suspended or threatened to impeach the chairmen or their deputies, saying, “Whatever are the merits or demerits of the actions by the Legislative Arms in the said local governments, the APC in the state calls for calm.

He added that “The status quo  should be maintained in the said local governments, which is that all the actions taken or purported to have been taken against the Executive Arms should be suspended forthwith

According to him, the APC is a party built on a solid foundation of law and order and has a very strong dispute resolution mechanism which were not deployed or exhausted in the impeachment, suspension and threats to impeachment of the LG chairmen in question.

Namang further commends the roles played by Governor Simon Lalong through his Deputy, Professor Sonni Gwanle Tyoden, the Plateau State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Honourable Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice and security agencies in the state for promptly restoring sanity, law and order in the affected local governments.

The APC assured the feuding parties and the public that it would dig into the roots causes of the issue in the affected local governments and sanction any infraction discovered.

It would be recalled that late this week, the vote of no confidence was passed on the executive chairmen of Mangu and Jos North, Hon Minister and Shehu Bala, by their legislators, where that of Mangu was suspended for 90 days and his deputy impeached.

And that of Jos North was interrupted by hoodlums while the vote of no confidence was passed on the chairman. That of Langtang North was a call on the legislative council to impeach the chairman, Hon. Zulfa Rimven.
