President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Muhammad Babangida, the son of former Nigeria’s military president, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida popularly known as IBB, the chairman of the revamped Bank of Agriculture.
The appointment of Babangida was announced in a statement issued on Friday by presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
His appointment was announced with seven others appointed as chairmen or directors-general of Federal agencies.
According to the statement, the President also appointed Lydia Kalat Musa (Kaduna State) as Chairman, Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA) while Jamilu Wada Aliyu (Kano State) Chairman, National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).
Also, Tinubu approved appointment of Hon. Yahuza Ado Inuwa (Kano State) as the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) chairman and Sanusi Musa (SAN, Kano State) as the Chairman of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution(IPCR).
In the same vein, the President appointed Prof. Al-Mustapha Alhaji Aliyu (Sokoto State) is the Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA) whileSanusi Garba Rikiji (Zamfara State) was made the Director-General of the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN).
President Tinubu, according to the statement also apppinted Mrs Tomi Somefun (Oyo State) as the Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) and Dr Abdulmumini Mohammed Aminu-Zaria (Kaduna State) has been appointed Executive Director of the Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC).
According to the statement by Onanuga, the 53-year-old Muhammad Babangida is an alumnus of the European University in Montreux, Switzerland, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Public Relations and Business Communication.
He later attended Harvard Business School’s Executive Program on Corporate Governance in 2002.
His father was Nigeria’s military president from August 1985 to August 1993.
