The Coalition of Northern Youths Consultative Movement (CNYCM) has criticised former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai, over his claim that the office of the National Security Adviser and the Kaduna State Government were making monthly payments to bandits.
The group described the remarks as “reckless, baseless, and irresponsible,” and demanded a public apology from the former governor for any harm his statement may have caused.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Yusuf Musa Audu, and National Secretary, Bilal Galadima, the coalition expressed deep concern over el-Rufai’s allegation, which was made during a national television appearance on Sunday.
The youth group warned that such claims could inflame tensions, undermine national unity, and derail collective efforts to tackle Nigeria’s complex security challenges.
It further stressed the need for responsible communication in fostering unity, understanding, and constructive dialogue across the country.
The statement read, “As leaders, we must prioritise communication that fosters national cohesion and encourages collaborative problem-solving, rather than rhetoric that could exacerbate existing tensions.”
The group urges politicians and leaders to exercise caution in their public statements, particularly on sensitive issues like national security.
It noted that promoting unity and constructive dialogue, leaders can help build trust and facilitate collective action to address security challenges.
The coalition commended the Chairman, Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Senator Shehu Buba for his tireless efforts in mitigating insecurity through non-kinetic actions.
According to the coalition, Senator Buba’s strategic approach has been instrumental in promoting peace and stability in the region, earning him widespread recognition and respect.
The group applauded Senator Buba’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerian citizens, citing his leadership and vision as a model for responsible leadership.
“The CNYCM remains committed to promoting national unity, peace, and development, and calls on all leaders to prioritise the well-being of the nation.
“The CNYCM’s stance underscores the importance of collective action in addressing the nation’s security challenges and promoting a brighter future for all Nigerians,” the statement added.
