The Lagos State Governor joined dignitaries and delegates at the grand opening of the 25th Annual National Women’s Conference of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) a remarkable gathering that celebrates 25 years of vision, compassion, and impact.
Over the years, COWLSO has evolved from a simple idea into a powerful movement dedicated to empowering women, strengthening families, and fostering social development across Lagos State and beyond.
In his remarks, the Governor paid glowing tribute to Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, whose visionary leadership revived COWLSO and laid the foundation for what has become one of Nigeria’s most influential women’s platforms. He acknowledged her pioneering role in shaping the ideals of service, compassion, and mentorship that continue to define the organisation’s legacy today.
The Governor also commended the present leadership of COWLSO under the guidance of his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, alongside her co-convener, Chief (Mrs.) Oluremi Hamzat, for their dedication and passion in sustaining the organisation’s mission.

He noted that their consistent efforts have kept the flame of women’s empowerment burning brightly, inspiring thousands of women to play active roles in community building and governance.
With the theme for this year’s conference, “Inspiring the Next Generation,” the Governor emphasised the importance of passing on values such as integrity, compassion, and courage to young women who will shape the future of Lagos and Nigeria.
He urged women leaders to continue mentoring and empowering the next generation to take on leadership roles and contribute meaningfully to society.

As COWLSO marks its silver jubilee, the Governor congratulated all members for their unwavering commitment and resilience over the past 25 years.
He celebrated the collective achievements of the organisation and reaffirmed the government’s continued support for initiatives that advance gender equality, social welfare, and inclusive growth.
The 25th anniversary, he noted, stands as a powerful reminder of how far the women of Lagos have come and the greater impact yet to come.

In her welcome address, Wife of the Governor and COWLSO Chairperson, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, said the conference theme reflects the organisation’s enduring commitment to advancing the welfare, leadership, and economic empowerment of women in Lagos and across Nigeria.
A major highlight of the event was the announcement of a ₦200 million donation from the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, who was the Special Guest of Honour but was unavoidably absent.
