A bomb explosion has been recorded at Al-Adum Jumaat Mosque around Gamboru Market area of Maiduguri, Borno State, during prayers.
It was gathered that the incident, which occurred on Wednesday evening, reportedly claimed several lives and left others injured.
The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the development. In a brief statement issued on Wednesday evening, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Daso, called for calm and assured residents that the entire area had been cordoned off.
The statement read, “Ongoing sweeping operations by police EOD as a suspected explosion incident was recorded at Al-Adum Jumaat Mosque in Gamboru Market today at about 1800HRS during prayers.
“Police EOD personnel have cordoned off the area to ensure public safety, while investigations are ongoing.”
Daso assured all that further updates would be communicated soon.
“Members of the public are advised to remain calm and vigilant as security operations are ongoing,” the statement added.
It was reported that the suspected bomb detonated during the evening (Maghrib) prayer.
