The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has announced plans to commence electronic registration and revalidation of its members, beginning January 5, 2026.
The Chairman of the party in the state, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, disclosed this on Friday while hosting journalists at the party’s secretariat in Ikeja.
Ojelabi said the exercise, which will run until January 30, 2026, is open to both existing and intending members and is aimed at creating a comprehensive and verifiable database of party members across the state.
“We want to have a proper database of our party and accurate statistical data of our membership strength. That is why we are embarking on e-registration,” he said.
According to him, possession of a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) will be a key requirement for membership, stressing that political participation without voter registration defeats the purpose of party affiliation.
“If you are a member of the APC and you do not possess a PVC, you are not with us. We want members who are qualified and ready to participate in the electoral process,” Ojelabi stated.
He explained that the exercise would also serve as a revalidation process for existing members, while providing an opportunity for new entrants to formally join the party.
Ojelabi used the occasion to call for collective responsibility in addressing security challenges in the country, urging Nigerians to support the efforts of President Bola Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“This is our country, and we do not have another one. Security is a collective responsibility. I appeal to everyone to support the president and the governor in ensuring the safety of lives and property,” he said.
The APC chairman also commended journalists for their role during the recent local government elections in the state, noting that the media provided extensive and objective coverage across the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas.
“This meeting is to appreciate you for your professionalism and quality reportage. We urge you to continue to report our activities objectively as we move towards party congresses at the ward, local, state and national levels in 2026,” he added.
In his remarks, the party’s spokesman, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, said the APC continues to receive defectors from opposition parties, dismissing fears of a one-party state.
“Our party is attracting members from other parties on a daily basis because of its performance at the centre and in Lagos state. That is why it has become necessary to open up our e-registration process to accommodate the increasing number of people joining us,” Oladejo said.
He added that the party remains open to all Nigerians who share its ideals and are willing to participate in the democratic process.
