The Lagos State Police Command has said that the recently activated Closed-Circuit Television Surveillance Centre will strengthen security and enhance real-time crime prevention across Lagos Island and its environs.

The development was disclosed by the command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, in a post on X on Sunday.

According to the statement, the facility was activated on January 14, 2026, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, as part of efforts to advance technology-driven policing in the state.

“In a major boost to technology-driven policing, the Lagos State Police Command has activated a CCTV Surveillance Centre to enhance security across Lagos Island and its environs,” the statement read.

The surveillance centre, which also serves as Control Room 5, enables real-time monitoring of the Third Mainland Bridge, adjoining waterways, and other strategic locations on the Island to proactively prevent crime and protect lives and property.

The facility was built and fully equipped by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Works, under the supervision of the Minister, Dave Umahi.

The police said the centre operates around the clock and is manned by well-trained officers to ensure swift, intelligence-led responses to security incidents.

“The centre operates 24/7 with trained personnel to ensure rapid response and effective deployment of intelligence,” the command stated.

In further support of the initiative, two operational vehicles were handed over to the Lagos State Police Command on January 16, 2026, to enhance mobility and operational efficiency.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities through its emergency lines.

“Members of the public are encouraged to partner with the police by reporting suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency numbers,” the statement added.
