An Osun State Magistrates Court has remanded six residents of the Dagbolu area of Osogbo for allegedly assaulting and plotting to kill policemen on duty in the area.

The six suspects—Oso Fiyinfoluwa (27), Rasheed Jimoh (40), Sunday Oriyomi (24), Wasiu Rafiu (36), Aremu Oluwaseyi (27), and Comfort Samson (30)—were brought before Chief Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara on five counts: conspiracy, assault, threat to life, stealing, and malicious damage.

The prosecutor, Jacob Akintunde, disclosed that the defendants committed the alleged offenses on March 23, 2026, around 10 am, near Oba Junction, Dagbolu area, while the policemen were on lawful duty.

He told the court that they conspired to assault and obstruct the policemen and other people in the area.

Akintunde added that they also stole the key to a Suzuki minibus belonging to Mr. Kareem Rasaki and damaged the vehicle’s rear glass.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the offences. Their lawyers, Barrister O. Tajudeen and Najite Okobe, made an oral bail application for them.

However, Dr. Ayilara denied the oral bail application and ordered that they be remanded. He adjourned the matter to March 27, 2026, for a ruling on the formal bail application.

Amid the development, the Osun State Police Command lamented a viral video circulating on social media showing police officers being attacked by hoodlums from the Ilobu Community.

A statement by the command through its spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, on Thursday, condemned the act, describing it as unlawful and a direct attack on constituted authority.

He explained, “The incident occurred when a team of Police officers was dispatched based on information that the peace of Erin-Osun/Ilobu communities was about to be compromised by certain disgruntled elements over a disputed boundary land.

The officers arrived at the scene and dispersed the hoodlums; subsequently, some youth of the Ilobu community went wild and manhandled the Police Officers, and one of the officers was dragged to Olobu palace, where he was further subjected to inhumane treatment.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, has deployed an intervention team to the affected area, and four suspects were arrested in connection with the matter. Although more suspects have been identified, and very soon, they will be apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law.”
