The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of a notorious kidnapper and the recovery of an illegal firearm following a coordinated, intelligence-led security operation in the Ikoyi-Ile area of the state.

According to the Command, the breakthrough was made possible through timely information provided by a vigilant resident, who reported the movement of three armed men wielding an AK-47 rifle around forests and farmlands in Ikoyi-Ile.

Acting swiftly, a joint team of operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer of Ikoyi-Ile Division mobilized to the location and conducted a thorough search of the area.

The operation led to the arrest of one suspect, identified as Muhammadu Abubakar.

An AK-47 rifle, six rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, and three cartridges were recovered from him.

Police authorities described the arrest as a significant step in tackling violent crime in the state.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to involvement in multiple kidnapping operations along the Ogbomoso–Ikoyi-Ile axis and is said to be cooperating with ongoing investigations.

Further findings indicate he has long been on the police radar and is linked to cross-border criminal activities.

He has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang.

The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and dedication to duty.

He also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his continued support and leadership in enhancing security operations nationwide.

The Command reiterated the importance of public cooperation in crime prevention and urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating violent crimes and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Oyo State.
