The Delta State Police Command has commenced disciplinary proceedings against two officers captured in a viral video allegedly extorting money from a motorist inside a police station in Asaba.
The incident, which occurred on January 13, 2026, involved officers attached to ‘C’ Division who were seen collecting money using a point-of-sale (POS) machine.
The Command described the act as unprofessional, inexcusable, and a violation of police standards.
The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, said the officers’ actions contravened directives issued by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which prohibit extortion and the use of electronic payment systems within police facilities.
According to the CP, the officers, Inspector Augustine Jeremiah and Corporal Miracle Ehirim are currently undergoing an orderly room trial.
He said the outcome of the disciplinary process would be made public.
The police boss reiterated that no officer is permitted to demand or receive money from members of the public under any circumstance and warned that misconduct and abuse of office would not be tolerated.
The CP also encouraged residents to report cases of police misconduct through its Complaint Response Unit, reaffirming its commitment to accountability and public trust.
