A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman to 75 years imprisonment over money laundering involving ₦33.8 billion linked to federal power projects.

Justice James Omotosho delivered the judgment on Wednesday, 13 May 2026, after convicting Mamman on 12 counts brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Mamman was tried over allegations that he conspired with officials of the Ministry of Power and private companies to launder funds connected to the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric power projects.

The court found that he unlawfully converted ₦33,804,830,503.73 through multiple transactions and made cash payments outside the banking system, including a $665,700 transaction linked to Mohiba Investment Ltd.

Justice Omotosho also ordered the forfeiture of several assets, including two four bedroom apartments in Kado Estate, Abuja, a property on Lingo Street in Wuse, and cash recovered from the former minister’s residence.

The judge held that Mamman would serve seven years on ten counts, three years on one count with an option of a ₦10 million fine, and two years on another count, with all sentences to run consecutively.

He also directed security agencies to arrest the former minister and ensure his transfer to the Nigerian Correctional Service.
