The Nigerian Army has assured Nigerians that it remains fully prepared to counter emerging security threats, following reports of foreign jihadist activities near the country’s borders.
Speaking at the grand finale of the ongoing Nigerian Army Day Celebration in Port Harcourt, the Waidi Shaibu said the military had observed the footprints of foreign jihadists across Nigeria’s borders but remained vigilant and capable of addressing any threat.
Shaibu noted that the Army is closely monitoring the worsening security situation in neighbouring countries across the Sahel region and assured citizens that troops are on high alert.
He said the Nigerian Army would draw inspiration from the achievements of previous generations of soldiers who served in the two World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War and ECOMOG missions, expressing confidence that the force would overcome the current security challenges.
The Army Chief reaffirmed that the military’s mission remains to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity, protect citizens, support civil authorities when required and contribute to national and international peace support operations.
