The Sokoto State Government has advised residents in areas affected by insecurity to avoid visiting sites hit by explosives, warning that such actions could pose serious health risks.
The directive, issued in a statement by Abubakar Bawa, Director-General of Media and Publicity at Government House, comes after residents of Jabo Town flocked to the scene of Thursday’s explosion shortly after it occurred.
Experts cited in the statement highlighted potential health hazards from exposure to explosives, including skin irritation or burns from chemical contact, respiratory problems from inhaling toxic fumes, and toxicity from ingestion or prolonged contact with explosive residues.
The government urged local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and religious leaders in high-risk areas to intensify public education on the dangers of visiting blast sites. Authorities were also instructed to cordon off affected areas to prevent access.
Sokoto State reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the lives of its residents and called for continued public cooperation in safeguarding communities.
