The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has sealed a public toilet on Savage Street, Ebute Metta, for allegedly discharging untreated sewage into a public drain.

The facility was shut down on Wednesday after inspectors confirmed the violation.

Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, announced the enforcement action on Thursday, stating that the operators deliberately pumped raw effluent into a community drainage line, producing strong odours and visible sewage flow.

Wahab described the act as a public nuisance with significant health risks, threatening groundwater quality, public hygiene, and environmental safety.

“The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), on Wednesday, 18th February, 2026, sealed off a public toilet located at Savage Street, Ebute Metta, for the deliberate pumping of raw sewage into the public drain, resulting into offensive odour and sewage flow within the community, constituting public nuisance, environmental pollution, and posing significant risks to human health.

He urges residents to adopt proper wastewater management and hygiene practices to support public health and promote environmental sustainability.

Wahab warned that offenders would be prosecuted and urged residents and business owners to adopt responsible wastewater disposal practices.
“Any act of environmental nuisance or pollution will attract appropriate sanctions and possible prosecution,” he added.
