The Independent National Electoral Commission has assured Nigerians that the electronic transmission of results in the 2027 general elections will be seamless, stating that the technical issues experienced during the 2023 presidential poll have been addressed.
INEC Chairman, Joash Ojo Amupitan, gave the assurance at a citizens’ town hall meeting in Abuja over the weekend. He expressed confidence that the commission’s systems have been strengthened to prevent a recurrence of past challenges.
The assurance comes amid discussions surrounding the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026, which provides for a hybrid system allowing both electronic and manual transmission as a safeguard.
While some stakeholders have welcomed the renewed commitment and planned system testing, others have called for greater transparency and practical demonstrations to rebuild public trust ahead of the 2027 elections.
