The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected collaborators accused of supplying logistics to a kidnapping syndicate operating around Ilu-Abo community and neighbouring areas.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, the suspects Alhassan Muhammad (20) and Faruq Muhammad Sanni (25) both residents of Sabon-Sango in Akure, were arrested on March 15, 2026, following credible intelligence from a concerned resident of the Ilu-Abo community.

The information revealed that one of the suspects, a commercial motorcyclist, had allegedly been assisting kidnappers by procuring and delivering food and other supplies to their hideouts in forested areas around Ilu-Abo.

Acting on the intelligence, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad launched a targeted operation that led to the arrest of the two suspects, while other members of the criminal syndicate fled upon sighting the approaching police officers.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects played supportive roles in sustaining the activities of kidnappers terrorising the community.

Police said the suspects are currently in custody and have provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations and the arrest of other fleeing members of the gang.

The Command said efforts have been intensified to track down the remaining suspects and dismantle the entire kidnapping network operating in the area.

The suspects will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

The Police Command also commended the vigilance and cooperation of residents of the Ilu-Abo community, noting that their timely and credible information contributed significantly to the success of the operation.

The Commissioner of Police further expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his continued support and strategic guidance to the Command.

The police urged residents to continue providing credible and actionable information, assuring the public that all reports will be treated with strict confidentiality as part of efforts to combat kidnapping and other crimes in the state.
