The Gender-Based Violence Unit of the Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly sexually defiling a teenage girl in Owo local government of the state.

The suspect, identified as Emmanuel Usman, is accused of forcibly dragging the victim into his employer’s office in Ijebu Quarters, Owo, on March 29, 2026.

He then allegedly engaged in unlawful sexual activity without her consent.

The victim alleged that Usman threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident to anyone, an attempt to intimidate and silence her.

However, she reported the matter to the police, prompting the suspect’s arrest.

The Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Akure on Monday.

He said, “The Ondo State Police Command under the leadership of CP Adebowale Lawal psc(+), mnips wishes to inform the general public of a reported case of defilement which is currently under thorough investigation by the Command’s Gender-Based Violence Unit.

“According to the report, the victim alleged that on the same date, one Emmanuel Usman ‘M’, aged 23 years, forcefully dragged her into his employer’s office located along Ijebu Owo, where he had unlawful carnal knowledge of her without her consent.

“Upon receipt of the report, operatives swiftly moved into action, leading to the arrest of the suspect. He is currently in police custody and has made useful statements that are aiding the investigation,” Jimoh said.

He added that the victim has been taken to the General Hospital, Owo, where she received necessary medical care.

“Additionally, appropriate psychosocial support mechanisms are being explored to ensure the victim’s well-being throughout the investigative and judicial process,” he said.

Jimoh noted that the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, condemned the act and directed that the case be handled with utmost diligence, sensitivity, and urgency to ensure justice is served.

The CP reiterated the Command’s commitment to combating all forms of sexual and gender-based violence across the state.
