The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State is witnessing a wave of political realignments as members of the House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly begin moves to exit the party, following what sources describe as a new political direction within the state structure.
The development comes after Hon. Adebayo Babajide Gabriel, who represents Ibadan North Constituency II in the Oyo State House of Assembly, formally resigned from the PDP, citing irreconcilable differences and unresolved internal issues within the party.
In his resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 12, Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Gabriel said his decision takes immediate effect after careful reflection on the current state of affairs within the party.
He explained that recent developments within the PDP no longer align with his personal convictions and political direction, making it difficult for him to continue as a member.
The lawmaker also requested that his name be removed from the party’s membership register and official records.
Meanwhile, there are reports that some members of the House of Representatives, including Hon. Abass Adigun Agboworin and Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide (Odidiomo), has also defected or aligned with the emerging political direction, though formal confirmation from the lawmakers themselves is still being awaited.
Despite his exit, Hon. Gabriel expressed appreciation to the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, party leaders, stakeholders, and members of the PDP for their support during his time in office.
The resignation has sparked discussions within political circles across Ibadan and beyond, with observers noting that more lawmakers and party members may be preparing to realign ahead of future political developments.
