Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have passed a vote of confidence in the Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, following rumours of a possible leadership change within the forum.
Reports had emerged on Thursday night alleging that some members of the forum announced the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, as the new leader of the group.
However, speaking with journalists after a closed-door meeting held at the Imo State Governors’ Lodge in Abuja on Friday, the 16 APC governors physically present reaffirmed their support for Uzodimma’s leadership.
Governors present at the meeting included those from Ondo, Gombe, Kaduna, Taraba, Edo, Sokoto, Ebonyi, Borno, Lagos, Kogi, Kano, Yobe, Kebbi, Benue and Jigawa states, while Nasarawa State was represented by its deputy governor.
The Governor of Taraba State attended briefly before leaving after a short meeting with the host governor.
Moving the motion for the vote of confidence, the Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, stated that Governor Uzodimma remains the chairman of the forum, while the Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, continues to serve as deputy chairman.
