The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating online claiming that High Chief Tajudeen Abioye, the Elesinele of Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area, was invited for questioning over the abduction of teachers and schoolchildren in the community.
In a statement, the Command described the report as false and misleading, stressing that the traditional ruler has not been invited or questioned in connection with the ongoing investigation.
Police said the publication appears to be part of a coordinated attempt by criminal elements to spread misinformation, sow discord, and distract from efforts aimed at rescuing the victims and apprehending those responsible for the abductions.
The Command urged members of the public to ignore the report and avoid sharing unverified information that could compromise ongoing security operations.
It reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders and security agencies to secure the victims’ release, while encouraging residents to provide credible and timely information through the appropriate channels.
