The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has said troops deployed on internal security operations across the country neutralised 102 terrorists and other criminal elements in July.
The military high command also disclosed that troops arrested 345 terrorists and other criminal suspects, rescued 393 kidnapped victims, while 57 insurgents surrendered during the period. Troops also recovered 59 weapons and 1,811 rounds of ammunition.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Abuja on Friday.
He said some of the major operational successes recorded during the month included the killing of Abu Salim al-Barnawi, a senior Boko Haram/ISWAP commander and propaganda chief, as well as the surrender of the Chief Finance Officer of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
“On July 12, troops repelled a Boko Haram/ISWAP attack in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, neutralising Abu Salim al-Barnawi, a senior terrorist commander and propaganda chief. His elimination dealt a significant blow to the insurgents’ leadership and propaganda network,” Onoja said.
