President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed the successful rescue of 308 Nigerian citizens who were abducted in separate attacks in Kwara and Niger States, describing the operation as a testament to the commitment and collaboration of Nigeria’s security agencies.
In a statement, the President expressed deep appreciation to the leadership and personnel of the security agencies for their bravery, seamless inter-agency coordination, and dedication which made the recovery possible.
According to the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, NCTC, 163 of the victims were abducted from Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, while 145 were taken from communities in Niger State.
The victims were rescued from the Kainji Lake National Park Forest in New Bussa Local Government Area of Niger State following a coordinated, intelligence-driven operation. Personnel from the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Nigeria Police Force participated in the operation.
Officials said it was the largest rescue operation carried out on the same day by the joint security team.
Meanwhile, stakeholders in Kwara State have applauded the Federal Government for the rescue of the kidnapped victims.
The Emir of Okuta and Permanent Chairman of the Baruten Emirate Council, His Royal Highness Alhaji Idris Shiru Abubakar, described the rescue as “a great joy” to the people of his community. He thanked President Tinubu and the security agencies for the intervention.
Also speaking, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, commended the Federal Government, security agencies, and the Kwara State Government for their efforts in ensuring the safe rescue of the victims from Kwara North Senatorial District.
The Emir made the commendation during a special prayer session for peace and security in the country.
President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s resolve to sustain the fight against terrorism, banditry, and other forms of criminality, and to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.
