The leaderships of the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) and other registered trade unions in the universities are to attend the parley at the Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja today.
Others invited to the meeting are identified interest groups and Civil Society organisations.
These were contained in a statement by the Labour and Employment Ministry’s Head, Press and Public Relations, Olajide Oshundun.
The statement reads: “The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, will host a tripartite-plus meeting between the government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities and other registered trade unions in Nigerian universities, as well as identified interest groups and Civil Society Organisations, on the on-going industrial actions by the trade unions.
“The Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Gambari, will chair the meeting.”
Shortly before Oshundun announced the meeting, ASUU President Emmanuel Osedeke had insisted that only implementation of the 2009 agreement between the union and the government would see his members return to the classrooms.
Major components of the pact are funding for the revitalisation of public universities by the Federal Government, payment of Earned Academic Allowances, signing of the re-negotiated 2009 agreement and deployment of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution.
