The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has inaugurated a reconciliation committee to resolve all conflicts, discontent and dissatisfaction aftermath of its local government primaries.
The Lagos State APC spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.
There have been pockets of protests over the outcome of the primaries and a number of petitions to the Appeal Committee.
He said: “The party after receiving and considering the reports of the appeal has resolved to activate its internal mechanism for conflict resolution and reconciliation to ensure that we go into the elections as a united force.
“The committee has been decentralized for ease of operation and to deliver on its mandate on time.”
He noted that the Lagos East Senatorial District Reconciliation Committee is headed by Dr Lateef Ibirogba.
He identified other members of the committee in the district as Mr Saheed Afonja, Chief Sumbo Onitiri and Mrs Sade Bakare.
He said that the Lagos Central Senatorial District committee would be headed by a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs Sarah Sosan, while other chieftains are Funso Ologunde, Adedoyin Banjo and Adigun Olalekan.
“The committee for the Lagos West Senatorial District 1 is headed by Otunba Bode Oyedele with Chief Jide Damazio , Alhaji Aleshinloye and Mrs Comfort Olalere as members.
“The Lagos West Senatorial District 2 reconciliation committee is headed by Alhaji Mutiu Are, while members are Mrs Jumoke Okoya, Otunba Kehinde Adeniyi and Mrs Adeola Rashidat,” he added.
He said that the committees have two weeks to turn in their reports.
The State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, acknowledged the wealth of experience of the committee members whose membership cuts across various interests in the party.
He urged them to be painstaking and ensure that all aggrieved members are pacified and assured of better days.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the APC in Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has reaffirmed its support for the outcome of the recently concluded party primary that produced Alhaji Abiodun Ishola Jimoh as the standard bearer in the forthcoming council chairmanship election.
A communique issued at the end of an emergency meeting and signed by top party stalwarts, the chairman, Otunba Adedeji, and the acting General Secretary, Shola Akande, the APC leaders condemned what they described as “incessant protests” aimed at discrediting the primary and the party’s image.
The party leadership accused a “sore loser” of orchestrating unrest for personal gain, warning that such actions risk sowing division within the ranks of the APC ahead of the local government elections.
“After a thorough review of the events following the May 10 primary at the APC State Secretariat in Acme, we concluded that the agitation from Agbado/Oke-Odo is being driven by self-serving interests bent on tarnishing the image of our party,” the communique read.
The leaders issued a stern directive to party faithful, advising against participation in any further protests “orchestrated to malign the image of the party,” stressing the need for unity and decorum among members.
