#EndBadGovernance protesters who gathered around the Eagle Square were teargassed by police operatives on Thursday morning.
The police team had made efforts to get the protesters to leave the place since the venue was not approved for them.
Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, had on Wednesday granted an order restricting to the protesters to the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
Justice Oriji gave the order in an ex-parte application brought before the court by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Wike had submitted that intelligence and security reports showed that some of the leaders of the protesters intended to use the protest to cause havoc, damage public facilities, block roadways and disturb public peace.
Wike also said that the security agencies told him that they would not be able to deal with the development.
Wike also submitted that the “Take it Back” Movement was threatening to invade Aso Rock.
In his ruling, Justice Oriji said: “In light of the above, the court finds it appropriate and expedient to grant an order under the omnibus or general prayer to ensure that the rights of the protesters are upheld while preventing negative impacts on other citizens’ rights to movement and ensuring that properties and public facilities are not destroyed”.
But on Thursday, the protesters who gathered around the Eagle Square refused to yield to the police instruction for them to leave the venue. So, the police had to deploy tear gas to get them to leave.
But they remained unmoved as they kept singing and displaying their placards.
