The Nigeria Police Force has announced the deployment of another Commissioner of Police to Osun State, about two weeks ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

The new Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale Etaifo’s posting to Osun State as CP elections is to take charge of security arrangements and ensure a peaceful, free and fair poll in the state, while the concurrent commissioner of Police oversees non election matters.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the Inspector-General of Police said the posting is part of efforts to strengthen security architecture in Osun ahead of the election scheduled for August 15th 2026.

According to the statement, the new Commissioner of Police has been charged to work in synergy with other security agencies, INEC, and other stakeholders to guarantee the safety of voters, election materials, and officials throughout the electoral process.

Meanwhile, the concurrent Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Gotan, remains in charge of the State Command and will continue to supervise routine policing activities, while providing necessary administrative and operational support for the CP election.

The IGP also urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to shun violence and conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the election.

He reassured residents of Osun State of the Police Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order and called on the public to report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
