The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced a consequential adjustment to the campaign timeline for the forthcoming Osun State Governorship Election following a shift in the election date.
In a press statement issued by its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC disclosed that the change became necessary after it moved the Osun governorship poll forward by one week.
The statement recalled that on February 26, 2026, it released the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election, which also affected the Osun governorship election, now rescheduled from August 8 to August 15, 2026.
As a result of the adjustment, INEC stated that the final day for political parties to conduct campaigns in the state is now midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
The Commission noted that this is in compliance with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which stipulates that all campaigns must end 24 hours before election day.
INEC therefore urged all political parties, candidates, and relevant stakeholders to strictly adhere to the revised timeline reaffirming its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections.
