The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is to hold a high-level stakeholders’ meeting and a world press conference on the 2027 general election on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
The stakeholders’ meeting is expected to mark the start of the 100-day countdown to the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
In a post on its X handle, the Commission said political party leaders, civil society organisations, election observers and the media are expected to attend the stakeholders’ meeting, scheduled to be held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Although the event is not part of the Commission’s released timetable, it is expected to serve as an avenue to address several pressing issues surrounding the elections.
The Commission said its Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, is expected to preside over the stakeholders’ meeting, which will be strictly invitation-only, assisted by National Commissioners.
The post read, “As preparations intensify for the 2027 General Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) invites political parties, the media, security agencies, civil society organisations, religious leaders, development partners, the diplomatic community and other stakeholders to a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders Meeting marking the 100-day milestone to the first ballot.
“The event will be addressed by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, and will provide an opportunity to engage Nigerians and key stakeholders on preparations for the 2027 General Election.”
