The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected thunderstorms and rainfall in different parts of the country between Monday and Wednesday.
According to its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet said isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected on Monday morning in Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba. Later in the day, more thunderstorms are likely across the northern states, with flash floods possible in Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe.
In the central region, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are expected on Monday morning, with rainfall likely in Niger, Kogi, Kwara, the FCT, and Benue. Thunderstorms are forecast later in the day across much of the region.
For the south, cloudy skies are expected on Monday morning with rainfall in Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River. Rainfall is also likely later in the day across most of the region.
On Tuesday, the northern states will see cloudy skies with sunshine in the morning, along with isolated thunderstorms in Borno, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa. Thunderstorms are also forecast later in the day in Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Taraba.
The central region is expected to have cloudy skies on Tuesday morning, with rainfall in Kogi, Niger, the FCT, Kwara, and Nasarawa. Later, thunderstorms are expected in Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and the FCT.
In the south, cloudy skies with rainfall are expected in Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Delta, followed by light to moderate rains in many parts of the region later in the day.
On Wednesday, the northern region will experience cloudy skies with some sunshine. Sokoto and Zamfara may see light rain in the morning, while thunderstorms are expected later in Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto.
The central region is forecast to have cloudy skies with light rains in the morning in the FCT, Kogi, Kwara, and Niger. Thunderstorms are expected later in Benue, Kwara, Kogi, and Niger. In the south, cloudy skies are expected in the morning, with rainfall likely in many areas later in the day.
NiMet advised motorists to avoid driving during heavy rainfall. Farmers were urged not to apply fertiliser or pesticides just before rain to prevent nutrient loss. The agency also encouraged residents to secure loose objects, disconnect electrical appliances, and avoid tall trees during storms.
Airline operators were asked to obtain weather reports for specific airports to guide flight planning. Residents were advised to follow updates on NiMet’s website: www.nimet.gov.ng.
