The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared its readiness for its 8th National Convention, with no fewer than 8,453 delegates expected to converge on Abuja for the two-day political event beginning on Friday.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the announcement during a World Media Briefing at the Transcorp Hilton, describing the convention as a defining moment for the ruling party’s unity, democratic growth and strategic direction under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to Idris, the convention, scheduled for March 27 to 28 at Eagle Square, will bring together delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to elect party leaders, review policies and set the tone for the APC’s next phase.

“This is not just a routine gathering. It is a moment of reflection, consolidation and planning that underscores our commitment to democratic values and national development,” he said.

The convention, themed “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” is expected to reinforce the party’s internal cohesion while aligning its structures with broader governance priorities.

Idris noted that the APC has maintained its position as a dominant political force through its ability to manage leadership transitions and accommodate diverse interests within a unified framework.

He added that preparations for the convention have been concluded, with committees finalising operational details to ensure a transparent and credible process.

“We are confident that this convention will meet the highest standards of democratic practice, reflecting discipline, organisation and inclusiveness,” the minister stated.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Central Coordination Committee for the convention, Aminu Masari, said the party had spent three weeks preparing for the event through 25 subcommittees tasked with logistics, accreditation, security and other critical areas.

“We are satisfied with the level of preparation so far and assure Nigerians that the APC is fully ready. This convention will set a benchmark for democratic processes within political parties,” Masari said.

He added that the ruling party aims to strengthen not only its internal democracy but also set a standard for other political parties in Nigeria.

The high-level briefing was attended by key government and party officials, including the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare; and Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The APC convention comes at a critical time as the party seeks to consolidate its leadership structure and reaffirm its political dominance ahead of future electoral cycles.

It is expected that the outcomes of the convention will shape the party’s policy direction and influence Nigeria’s broader political landscape in the coming years.
