The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 31 suspected internet fraud trainees at a so-called “Yahoo academy” located in Becki Estate, Karu, Abuja.

According to the Commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the suspects were arrested during an operation while undergoing training in internet fraud.

Items recovered from the scene include mobile phones, laptops, and other electronic devices.

Preliminary investigations revealed that some of the recruits were allegedly lured from Benue State with promises of legitimate job opportunities. However, they were reportedly provided with communication devices and software tools used for cyber fraud training upon arrival.

Further findings suggest that the recruits were housed within the facility, had their movement restricted, and their phones confiscated, effectively isolating them from the outside world.

The EFCC stated that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
