Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), and Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State, have officially joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Both political figures formalised their membership on Sunday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, marking a significant development in Nigeria’s opposition landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.

Prior to this move, Obi had announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Kwankwaso had also earlier indicated he was engaged in “wide-ranging consultations” with the NDC, fueling speculation about his next political step.

Their defection is expected to reshape alliances within the opposition and could have far-reaching implications for future electoral contests.
