The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has moved to quell growing speculation regarding a possible shift in its internal election timeline, firmly stating that all scheduled dates for the 2027 General Election primaries remain valid.
In a press statement released Wednesday night in Abuja, the ruling party addressed what it described as “false and misleading reports” gaining traction on social media.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said that the leadership has not authorized any changes to the previously announced schedule.
The statement reads: “The All Progressives Congress (APC) wishes to clarify that the dates scheduled for the Party’s forthcoming Primary Elections for the 2027 General Elections remain unchanged,” Morka stated.
The clarification comes at a high-stakes moment for the party, as aspirants for various legislative and executive positions have already begun intensive grassroots mobilization.
Party insiders suggest the “misleading reports” may have been an attempt by certain interest groups to cause administrative friction ahead of the first set of polls.
According to Morka, the clarification was necessary to protect the integrity of the process and ensure party members are not led astray by unverified communication platforms.
“This clarification has become necessary following the circulation of false and misleading reports on social media and other communication platforms suggesting otherwise,” the statement read.
According to the upheld timetable, the exercise will kick off in less than 48 hours with the House of Representatives primary, culminating in the Presidential primary on May 23.
