President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with traditional institutions to promote peace, security, national cohesion, and sustainable development across Nigeria.

The message was delivered in Dutse, Jigawa State, at the 8th Executive Committee Meeting of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council (NTRC) by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

Idris conveyed the President’s recognition of the strategic role of traditional rulers in grassroots governance, peacebuilding, and national unity, describing them as trusted partners with strong community influence.

He commended the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council, led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, for its continued efforts in promoting peace, unity, and development across Northern Nigeria.

Speaking on the theme “Peace, Unity and Development of the North,” the Minister stressed that peace remains the foundation for meaningful progress, while also noting that insecurity must be tackled alongside poverty, unemployment, and social exclusion.

He highlighted ongoing security coordination between the Armed Forces and intelligence agencies, noting continued efforts to improve intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration against criminal and terrorist groups.

Idris also outlined key Federal Government economic initiatives, including support for agriculture, livestock development, infrastructure, education financing, consumer credit schemes, and small business empowerment.

He described the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development as a major step toward modernising livestock production, improving food security, and reducing farmer-herder conflicts.

He further referenced major infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway as transformative investments aimed at boosting economic activity and strengthening national integration.
