Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Saturday inspected the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Surulere, commending residents for joining officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment to clear drains and sweep streets.

The governor described the turnout as encouraging, stressing that environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility that safeguards public health and helps prevent flooding across the state.

Addressing concerns over the current waste disposal challenges, Sanwo-Olu assured residents that the state government is implementing lasting solutions to improve waste management.

According to him, the government is procuring 150 new compactor trucks, deploying locally assembled tricycles to improve waste collection in inner streets, and constructing facilities capable of processing thousands of tonnes of waste daily.

He added that the state government is also providing support to Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators to address their operational challenges and enhance service delivery.

Sanwo-Olu thanked residents who participated in the sanitation exercise, noting that while the government is investing in critical waste management infrastructure, the cooperation and daily commitment of Lagosians remain essential to keeping communities clean, safe, and resilient.
