The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ekiti State, Bunmi Omoseyindemi, has described Saturday’s governorship election as largely peaceful, inclusive, and efficiently conducted.
Speaking to journalists at the INEC headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, Omoseyindemi said he was satisfied with the conduct of the poll across the state.
“I was on the field myself, and I observed that the polling units opened on time, as we promised,” he said. “From our monitoring room, 97 per cent of the polling units were set up by 8:00 a.m., and elections started by 8:30 a.m. everything is okay.”
He acknowledged isolated technical glitches involving the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), particularly in Ijero-Ekiti, but noted that the challenges were swiftly resolved by technical teams.
The REC dismissed claims of widespread intimidation and deliberate disruptions, describing such reports as “fake news,” and insisting that the commission did not receive any credible complaints of systemic irregularities.
Omoseyindemi commended voters for their turnout and orderly conduct, noting that the exercise proceeded smoothly in most areas.
“We never had it so good,” he said, while also highlighting the effective participation and inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) during the election.
The REC warned journalists and the public against announcing results before INEC does so, describing it as a criminal offence. He urged everyone to remain patient as collaboration continues at various levels.
